CT-1 is a portable measurement device specially used for detecting single-phase AC quality, and it can be easily used to observe voltage harmonic wave and interference noise (THD+N) as well as the size of and the change along with time in DC weight arising from asymmetrical waveforms of circuit voltage. Through measurement without interruption, CT-1 can also enable the observers to see the status on changes in AC quality in different time periods of a day (This is a strong proof to reveal that the sound quality at midnight is obviously better than that in the peak power consumption period of dusk.), and to listen to music by avoiding the period of high power pollution.

By using CT-1, AV fanciers can easily find the problems with AC quality and solve them by selecting and using proper power processing devices, so that the existing apparatus can again show their original satisfactory performances.

The indication value (full scale) of CT-1 for measurement of voltage harmonic wave and interference is ranged at 5%, corresponding to the value of allowance in governmental standard, and when THD+N exceeds 5%, the meter pointer will be offset beyond the reading range, to show that AC quality has grievously deteriorated.

In addition to precision reading, the measurement value of CT-1 can also be rapidly and visually used in different color zones of meter to represent degrees of impact from AC quality on AV apparatus. When DC weight is measured, the transformer of audio equipment is normally quiet if pointer is located inside the green zone, while the pointer is turned to the red zone, the noise of vibrations with most large-power IR transformers reaches to an easily audible degree. Operating
Preheating prior to Measurement
It takes about 2 minutes for preheating from startup of CT-1 to design measurement precision. After connecting the power lead attached with CT-1 respectively with the mainframe of CT-1 and the AC power socket to be measured, please be patient to wait to read the precise and stable measurement result after preheating time is completed.

Measurement of Harmonic Wave and Noise of Power Supply
Dial the measurement select switch upward to the position of “THD+N”, and at this point the meter will indicate the “THD+N” value for harmonic wave and noise of power supply. The smaller the indication value is, the more pure the power supply is indicated.

“THD+N” indication value of CT-1 takes 5% as the full scale. The indication value of meter is a linear scale. The green zone corresponds to “THD+N” value smaller than 1%, and when pointer is located inside the green zone, the quality of power supply no doubt belongs to good quality level. The unprocessed original power energy can often have a “THD+N” value up to more than 3%.

The “THD+N” value indicated by CT-1 may vary in different time periods of a day along with the change in loads on the same circuit and different situations of interference. Under normal condition, “THD+N” should be a relatively stable indication value. If the measurement value rises and falls frequently within a short time period or the pointer is offset beyond the full scale, it indicates that there exists serious interference in the power supply or the distortion of circuit voltage has reached the degree which may seriously affect normal use of electronic device. Under such situation, if power is not effectively processed, while directly supplied to high-level a-v apparatus, not only a pure audio quality or video frame is not ensured, but it will also be very disadvantageous to the security and service life of apparatus, which shall be avoided as much as possible.

DC Weight Measurement
Dial the measurement select switch downward to “DC” position, and at this point the indication value of meter shall correspond to DC weight arising from asymmetry in positive and negative half wave in AC to be measured. The “DC” indication value of CT-1 takes 200mV as full scale, and the indication value of meter is a linear scale. The green zone corresponds to 0-20mV, regardless that few large power transformers under the 10mV DC weight may also possibly generate audible noise of vibration, but most power transformers with good quality will not affect normal listening for their noise of vibrations given out when pointer is located inside the green zone.

Monitoring on Harmonic Wave and Noise of Power Supply
“THD+N” indicated by CT-1 meter is a mixed value of harmonic wave and noise of interference. When it is needed to further recognize their respective contents or to observe their respective components, earphone can be inserted into monitoring port or the signal output from monitoring port can be directly sent to Y-axle port of oscillograph. The built-in potentiometer for electric level adjustment can be regulated to monitor the range of signal output from monitoring port. Regulation of this potentiometer produces no influence on indication value of meter.
