Description : Designed specifically for mid-sized rooms, the pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.8 mk2 speakers features dual active bass drivers incorporating 75 mm (3 inch) woofer voice coils and long throw progressive spiders for improved membrane control. Dynaudio's renowned soft dome tweeters are the secret behind the Contour 1.8 MKII's incredible sensitivity and dynamic range. These ferrofluid-cooled and damped tweeters are purposely moulded in one piece to provide the listener a perfectly integrated sound. With a double magnet system on all drivers, and heavy duty cabling for durability and strength, the Contour 1.8 mk2 is a floor mounted speaker that is really going places. The speakers are part of Dynaudio's "advanced" range, which also includes the Contour 1.1, 1.3 and 2.8. In comparison to the original 1.8 model, the 1.8 mk2 has two active bass drivers instead of one active one passive. The speakers are fairly easy to drive, despite the 86dB sensitivity rating. Quality electronics are the required optimum, although the speaker doesn't suck in amplifier power the way some of its peers do. The cabinet, which comes with an integrated stand, has a small port at the bottom of the rear baffle. Bi-wiring facilities are not provided, but there is an OCOS cable connector for maximum performance.
When in play, the Dynaudio Contour 1.8 mk2 speakers sounds clean and have so much detail, even at soft volumes. No coloured excesses are present in the sonic character of these speakers. The bass is tight, well-rounded and superbly tuneful. The midrange is open and spacious, and the treble is crisp, inoffensive and articulate. The attractions of the soft-dome tweeter are becoming more obvious in the days of aluminium and titanium constructions. Unlike some speakers which reveal their qualities only after extended listening, over weeks or months of "running in", the Dynaudios's nuances and textures of the music are obvious from the start. Settle down for a quiet evening of classical or jazz (acoustic or fusion), and even pop/folk with oodles of vocals and the listeners will hear why the Contour speakers are so revered in some circles. Every instrumental detail, every twist in the singer's phrasing, every shift in emphasis of the beat are reproduced with impeccable flair.
