The Monolith M1060C is a closed back planar headphone that has received raving reviews worldwide. Even being a closed model, the sound is exceptional for the price. But when being modded to an open version, the sound improvement is another notch.
The bass is a very strong plus point of this headphone, where other planar headphones a lot more expensive could only just match that tight intensity. While the bass may have been sacrificed that tad little in this open mod, it still has such fun and enjoyable experience listening to Rock and Pop.
The highs are now extended to lift with more air and space. Soundstage has been opened up with imaging remains on point and accurate. Midrange is exceptional, as the strong bass performance brought the emphasis to the lower midrange which actually enhances and gives so much weight to vocals, be it females or males. Certain planar headphones maybe have more clarity, but this M1060C vocals do not sound hollow like some others do.
Personally feel is better than HE400i and Sundara, close to Arya but loses out to its soundstage and pad comfort. Of course for that price, nobody can complain.
Open mod is complete with custom-design 3D-printed grilles to perfection. Is wholly a QA design so this is truly a unique piece of work where no other headphones in the world will look like this. Grilles are finished with primer paint and glittery green that looks as beautiful as it sounds.
Headbands on the Monoliths headphones have been a huge complaint despite the stellar performance. So there is no reason to not enjoy with sound without comfort. Replaced here is a sturdy, leather-sewn with cushion headband which is not only a lot more comfortable than the stock headband from Monolith, but it also prevents the annoying swivels present originally in this upgrade. Functional, tidy, light and sturdy. Adjustments are easy and precise with no steps or clicks.
This is a completely new headphone modded with joy as a special project from QA. It has not been burn-in, so it can only sound better. As usual with any mod, there is seldom perfection to the workmanship as we are no machine but as far as perfection goes, this headphone is quite on point in mod and upgrade.
There will be a month of warranty from QA offered to only functionality issues, as this headphone is so open to mods that further mods could well be done to it by enthusiasts. Cosmetics defects, once sold, are not covered under warranty. (Paints on 3D-prints can be scratched off with hard objects on force, so please take care not to subject the grilles from any frictional forces or scratches from hard objects, even fingernails)
